you.. just be YOU!

"Just be yourself!!"
how many times in life have we heard this advice?
In a situation where you don't know how to react or simply lose the sanity and logic, somebody who doesn't know what else to do, tells you the ultimate magical words, 'be yourself'!
All so-called self-help books, magazines, cosmetics ads etc etc celebrate 'being yourself', where the irony is, all of these work exactly the opposite way...they tell you how to change your attitude, behaviour, appearance in order to get what you can't possibly get just by being yourself.
What do u mean by being urself? Sit on ur a** with a stubborn attitude of not changing ur screwed up opinions about something or someone?? or is it just a form of laziness not to accept ur own weaknesses and defficiencies, or rather...instead of acknowledging them and trying to work on 'em, just take it as "the way it is"?? So the stuff like self-improvement and growing up as a person, doesnt exist anymore?
I think its a rather misunderstood phrase, one meaning that could be extracted from it is not trying to be someone you are not. But then again, what about following your ideals in life? If somebody wants to be like Mother Teresa or Narayanmurthy, is it still advisable not to try to be someone you are not but you really want to be?

  2. hmm... good work...

As far as I can see,
Yes we Do hear this term every now and then, people brat about originality..
But we don't come into this world with GPS system, we have to search our way through the situations, good and bad ones... and of course in such cases we look up to somebody for help.
This is where the greats u mentioned like Mother Teresa, Narayanmurthy show us the way forward,
We have to pick a thing or two from them, and try to work out the things your own way...

That is what 'BE YOURSELF' is to me...

Though I am not an able person to comment on this but still...
Jyala bhukelya poti suddha kavita suchate, to khara sahityakar kinva kavi...
ashya lokankade bagha and then say BE YOURSELF...

Suggestion from my side : Omkar please try and refrain from writing any question in the end of your blog. It is not a good practice dude... :)

  6. first of all... kudos for touching such a topic. Discussion of such topics is rare and hence must be undertaken more often. For me the term 'Be urself' comes as an irony. What if the person who seriously decides to follow such an advice dosen't even know who he/she really is?? Thus being oneself will then be problematic. I think dats the situation with most of the ppl around me. No one can really pin point how they'll behave in any situation!!
